A message from Curtis Ennis, Director of the Education for the Halton District School Board

As the winter break approaches, I want to wish all our Halton community the very best in health and happiness. The last few weeks have been a whirlwind of information from government and public health officials as our youngest students became eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine while we face another new variant of the virus. I want to thank our staff and families for their diligence in keeping our schools safe places for students to learn.

We do understand the winter break and holiday season can cause stress for students, families and staff. Positive mental health is integral to our overall well-being and we want you to know that support and resources are available to help if you encounter difficulties.

While there are many definitions of mental health, what all definitions share is the idea that when we have good mental health and well-being, we have the ability to enjoy life and manage stressful and difficult situations.

The HDSB Mental Health and Well-Being resources on the HDSB website are designed to provide students and families with information about mental health, how you can support good mental health, and where to turn to for help if you are concerned about your own mental health or that of a friend or family member.

I hope you enjoy this time away from school and work. But please stay vigilant about your health - continue to follow COVID-19 protocols for mask wearing, physical distancing and hand hygiene. Stay safe, and if you need support, refer to the following community resources.

I wish you Happy Holidays and Happy New Year.
