Geocaching is the activity of finding a hidden object by using navigational techniques to hide and seek containers, called geocaches, in specific locations. Students in Alison Andrew's Grade 12 class created and hid geocaches in the forest near the school for the Grade 7 students at Acton DS to find. The Grade 12s developed a list of clues and accompanied the Grade 7s through the forest to locate them. The geocaches contained prizes for the Grade 7 students to collect, and a log book for successful locators to write their names in. The activity connected to the environmental texts the Grade 12 students were reading in class, and provided both grades the opportunity to develop their literacy skills, connect with and learn from each other while enjoying nature on a crisp autumn morning.
